Wilfred Greenwood was born in Todmorden, the son of Robert Crossley Greenwood.
He was a machine fitter [1901].
In [Q3] 1897, he married Ada Gregson [1878-1941] in Todmorden.
Ada was born in Queensbury, the daughter of Abraham Gregson.She was a sewing machinist tailoring [1911] / a men's clothing sewing machinist at Redman Brothers, Vale Mill, Todmorden [1921]

Wilfred Greenwood of 5 Bank View, Woodhouse, foreman mechanic at Sandholme Iron Company's works, Todmorden, died in an accident last Wednesday.He had been promoted to foreman mechanic about a month and a half ago.
About 11.45 that morning, one of the apprentices wished to use a shafting that ran a cold saw to which no strap (belt) was attached. Greenwood undertook the task of putting on the strap but did not stop the shaft first. The smock he was wearing caught on a screw or bolt and he was whirled around the shafting which was working at a rate of 240 revolutions per minute. The strap driving the shaft was thrown off and the shaft stopped rotating. Greenwood's body was pinned tightly to the shaft. He was cut free and medical help was called.
A carriage was chartered to take him to hospital but Dr MacRobert pronounced his condition too critical for removal. His injuries were mostly internal. There was no mutilation of the body, but it appeared that he had been strangled. He was able to speak a few times but there was no hope and he died about 2:30 pm.
The inquest will be held next Friday.
He was married with two children. His widow was the daughter of Mr Gregson, reed manufacturer.
Both families were connected with Wellington Road Baptist Church where deceased was a member of the choir
The Todmorden & District News [14th March 1902] reported the Inquest:
Inquest into the death of Wilfred Greenwood, foreman mechanic of Bank View, Woodhouse, who met with an accident at Sandholme ironworks the previous Wednesday (5th March) and expired a few hours later.His smock got caught on the shaft and he was strangled by his clothing.
His brother, John Henry Greenwood of 45 Joshua Street, Todmorden, sub-manager at the ironworks, said the accident occurred when his brother tried to put a belt on a rotating shaft.
The verdict was Accidental death caused by being carried round a shafting on which his clothing had caught.
Wilfred was buried at Todmorden Parish Church on Saturday (8th March 1902).
A memorial service was held at Wellington Road Baptist Church the following day
