He was a farm servant in Ripley, near Harrogate [1911].
During World War I,
he served as a Private
with the Duke of Wellington's (West Riding Regiment).
He transferred to the Labour Corps.
He died 26th November 1918 (aged 24).
The Todmorden & District News [13th December 1918] reported his death with a photograph
Joined up in February 1916 and sent to France about five months later.
He was wounded and very badly gassed.
On recovery, he was sent to work on a farm at Holly Moor Side,
Chesterfield, where he succumbed to bronchial pneumonia.
He lived at 3 Back Patmos, Todmorden.
He was one of six brothers who served in the war.
One was killed in the Dardanelles and a second one in France
He was given a military funeral at St Peter's Church, Holymoorside,
Derbyshire.
He is remembered in the Todmorden Garden of Remembrance

In 19??, he auditioned at the Palace Theatre.
