He went to France [23rd May 1916], then to Italy [1st November 1917].

He died of pneumonia following influenza in No.57 General Hospital, Marseilles [30th October 1918] (aged 24).

His photograph appears with reports of his death in the Halifax Courier [16th November & 23rd November 1918].

He was buried at Mazargues War Cemetery, Marseilles, France [Grave Ref IV B 32].
