Accidents were recorded at the coal mine:

• In 1844, Benjamin Craven (aged 13), a hurrier at the coal mine, was killed by a portion of the roof falling upon him
• In 1853, Thomas Pickles was killed and several others were injured by an explosion at the coal pit
• In 1891, John Baxendale was killed in a roof fall at the Colliery
